HESLO Levels Overview

HESLO 2	HESLO 1 completed, 2h & 20 cycles flight instruction w/ long line	> 20m	Long line
HESLO 3	500 cycles, specialized ops training	varies	Logging, sawing, avalanche control, etc
HESLO 4	1,000h total, 2,000 cycles, advanced ops	varies	Tower erecting, wire stringing, etc.

Pilot Progression

Before HESLO Training

• Minimum 10h on helicopter type

Before Acting as PIC (under supervision)

• Complete previous HESLO level
• Complete required flight instruction (hours + cycles)

Before Acting as Unsupervised PIC

• Complete ground training + reviewed specialist syllabus
• Complete supervised missions + minimum flight experience

Human External Cargo (HEC)

Level	Sling/Cable Length	Requirements
HEC 1	≤ 25m	1,000h PIC, 10 cycles flight instruction, onsite solo supervision
HEC 2	> 25m	HESLO 2 required, mountain ops: 500h PIC in mountains

Instructor Requirements

HESLO Instructor

• 500h HESLO, 10h as unsupervised PIC at relevant level
• “Teaching & learning” component or prior aerial work instructor experience

HEC Instructor

• 100+ cycles in HEC ops at equal or higher level
• “Teaching & learning” component or prior aerial work instructor experience
